The anti Kyogo Furuhashi brigade, we all know who they are, need to take a long hard look at themselves.

The Japanese international has been in the country no longer than four months, and after being assaulted off the ball by Livingston’s Ayo Obileye and hurting himself as he ran into Dundee defender, Cammy Kerr, there are those in the media with a predominantly Rangers background that are trying to paint him as some sort of diving cheat.

It is a spurious and appalling public effort to try and discredit a player who has been nothing but professional since he arrived in Scotland.

I have written a few times now at some of the off the ball treatment Furuhashi has received since coming to Celtic Park and how has he reacted?

Like a true professional. He dusts himself off, gets up and gets on with it.

Well, in a serious turn up for the books, Kyogo was defended by one of the most unlikeliest radio pundits, one that is probably the most scathing when it comes to anything Celtic.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Hugh Keevins actually sounded exasperated at the suggestion that Kyogo is a cheat and he laid to rest Alex Rae’s ‘buy a penalty‘ theory, “I think because Kyogo went down in comical fashion against Livingston at Celtic Park, when Obileye skelped the back of his head.

“I think people now think every time Kyogo hits the ground he is cheating in some way.

“The incident at Dens Park, there was no claim for anything by Kyogo.

“There was no complaint about anything by the Dundee player and the referee gave nothing.

“Therefore we have an invisible conspiracy here.”

There seems to be a narrative forming here.

There seems to be a concerted effort to get Kyogo branded as some sort of diver in an apparent attempt, one can assume, to make the Japanese a target for referees.

At least Keevins had the bottle to call it out.
