As Celtic look to seal the deal with a potential new manager in the coming days, reports from Wales suggest that the Hoops are on the trail for Sunderland’s 25 goal striker, Charlie Wyke. Wyke has been in sensational form for The Black Cats this season as they aim to gain promotion the English Championship via the League 1 play offs.
Wyke’s goalscoring has not gone unnoticed as the big hitman has been responsible for over a third of all Sunderland’s goals this season and with the possibility of capturing the striker on a free, he has been targeted as an ideal replacement for Odsonne Edouard, should the Frenchman decide to leave Celtic in the summer.
Wales Online has reported that Celtic have joined Cardiff City, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forrest and Millwall in the chase for the striker as his current contract expires in June. Former Celtic defender Mark Wilson also confirmed the interest on his podcast The Celtic Huddle Podcast when he said, “It’s understood that Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke is on a list of potential summer signings.
Is Eddie Howe the man for the Celtic job?
LET'S MOVE ON
“Looking into him, he’s scored 30 goals this season in League One. He’s 28-years-old and he’s available on a free transfer.”
Although Wilson is a little out with his goal scoring facts (Wyke has scored 29 in all competitions), it is fair to say that the speculation is rife that he is fast becoming top of the list of Celtic’s summer targets which also strongly suggests that the new Celtic manager announcement may be sooner than we all think!
