Celtic defender Jack Hendry has insisted the Hoops squad are fully focused on the challenge of AEK Athens despite behind-the-scenes drama involving Dedryck Boyata.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed at the weekend that Boyata’s agent arrived at Lennoxtown on Friday to demand a meeting with the manager, only to disappear by the time Rodgers could make himself available.

With the Belgian defender claiming injury after a potential move to Fulham was rejected last week, there were some suggestions that it’s all been a disruptive influence on the Celtic squad at large.

However, Scotland international Hendry has insisted there’s no issues as the team go through their final preparations for tomorrow night’s clash against AEK Athens in Greece.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the 23-year-old said:

No, definitely not. I haven’t heard anything about it and I’m sure the lads aren’t taking any notice of it. We’re fully focused at the end of the day on getting results and that’s it.

Obviously it was disappointing with the draw against AEK and the loss to Hearts, but I’m sure with the quality we have in our side we’re going to bounce back strongly. I think we’ve just got to remain positive. In the last game we played against AEK I thought we dominated so, if we go over and implement our game plan, I’m sure we’ll do well.

Tied at 1-1 with the Greek champions after last week’s first leg, the Hoops will need to score abroad if they’re to have any chance of progressing to play-off round.

A big defensive performance from Hendry and his likely defensive partner Jozo Simunovic will also be required, so it’s pleasing to hear the player is confident ahead of the fixture.
