You must have heard this doing the rounds on social media right?

The rumour that Celtic have somehow ‘bought’ this title after Ange Postecoglou’s first two forays into the transfer window is a good wee comfort blanket that our rivals clutch to as the realisation that their one year domination of Scottish football is over.

It’s over. Or at least it will be come Sunday afternoon.

Celtic lost over half a team last season. A team that had won a Quadruple Treble but also lost the league by 25 points. No captain. No CEO. No star striker. No goalkeeper and no defence.

Of course Ange was going to spend money. He didn’t have to, he needed to.

And the narrative that we have somehow bought this title is completely laughable.

This was discussed on The Boycie Bus podast with Russell Boyce and David Logue.

It was Logue that addressed this stupid narrative when he said, “This myth that we spent an absolute fortune. Who cares?

“I don’t see anybody saying Man City are only winning the league this year because they spent £50m.

If you could only sign one player, which would it be?

“We’re living within our means, right? I don’t understand that. If we were spending £100 million or £40 million/£50 million, whatever you like if we can’t afford it.

“We have not bought back the league. We sold Edouard for an absolute fortune. Ajer at a ridiculous amount considering he was within one year of his contract.

“So the highest, the most expensive player that we bought this season was Kyogo.”

“That’s the most expensive player that we bought this season. The rest have been fractions. Absolute fractions.”

And you know what? See if Ange decides to spend another £20m next season and retains the league, I don’t think it really matters because where he has taken us from where we were is tremendous and no amount of chest beating nonsense can change or diminish that.
