Why the Japan ‘want to tempt’ Postecoglou story is a load of nonsense

Here we go again.

If it’s not lazy links to the English Premier League it’s now to a national team manager’s job.

Do you think these guys sit around press rooms at this time of year are thinking, ‘Right chaps, it’s international week. What we gonnae right about?’

A wee guy at the back pipes up, ‘Who’s about to lose their job this winter?’

Gaffer says, ‘Frank Lampard’s job looks dodgy and the Japan manager is probably gonnae get punted after the World Cup.’

The wee guy at the back, ‘Right gaffer, Ange to Everton and Japan it is then!’

Gaffer, ‘Do you not think we should investigate to see if there is any substance to the story?’

Wee guy at the back, ‘Nah, I’ll just add a tenuous link and a whataboutery statement and we’ll see how it goes.’

For the avoidance of doubt, this was a lazy made-up scenario I made in my head and it never really happened.  Do you see where I am going with this?

Now, who knows if Ange is seriously on Japan’s radar as Nikkan Sports claim via Football Scotland.

Football Scotland added no link or any quote to their story so I went looking for it. It’s here if anyone wants to read it.

The Football Scotland article claims ‘Japan have ‘reached out” and Nikkan Sports quotes an ‘association official’ as saying, “It was not a formal offer, but I confirmed my intention with Postecoglou, and I have heard that it was not a negative answer [to the appointment of Japan national team coach].”

Do you know why it was not a negative answer? Because Ange is respectful. We all know he has a great reputation in the country and he certainly wouldn’t want to tarnish it or damage it by flatly refusing a job offer.

No wait, no job offer was actually made. The quote used by Nikkon actually says that.

Let me see where it says that in the Football Scotland article…………nope. Nothing. Weird that.

Just some random faceless guy quoted as saying they want Postecoglou as Celtic manager.

But they [Football Scotland] did scoop us all with this piece of brand new information, “There’s no suggestion Postecoglou would want to leave Celtic Park and he’s already underlined his intentions to improve in the Champions League next season.”

I wonder if I quoted a ‘source’ from Celtic wanting to have Pep Guardiola as manager the nationals would run a story without checking it first?
