Celtic continued their positive momentum in the early part of the season with a convincing 4-1 friendly victory against Belgian side Standard Liege at Celtic Park on Saturday.
With manager Brendan Rodgers choosing to field two different elevens in each half, it was a great opportunity for fringe players to impress in action for the Hoops and nobody took their chance better than young Mikey Johnston.
The winger came on for the second half and scored the team’s fourth goal of the day just after the hour mark with a clever chip over an onrushing goalkeeper.
Johnston has looked sharp in pre-season and is surely knocking on the door of Rodgers first team having previously made just five appearances.
The 19-year-old looks dangerous every time he’s taken to the pitch recently and if he isn’t getting the regular action he needs at Celtic Park, then surely a club will come calling to sign him on loan for the season.
