As Kristoffer Ajer looks to complete his move to Brentford today, author and contributor to the A Celtic State of Mind podcast and The Celtic Way’s, Anthony Haggerty, gave Vital Celtic his thoughts on Ajer as a player and where he see’s his career going when he finally gets his long awaited move to the riches of the English Premier League.

The speculation surrounding the big Norwegian has been rife this summer and with Ajer making clear his objective to leave Paradise, Anthony Haggerty, author of “Gonnae Gies a Kick O’Yer Baw Mister” said, “I think for a man that they signed for 500 grand and you sell them on for 27 times that amount , is a wonderful deal for Celtic. It’s a wonderful deal for the player as well.

“He said he was made a promise that he could leave last year and then COVID hit and he was asked to stay for a 10 which didn’t materialise.

“I have my thoughts on Ajer. I don’t think he’s the finished article by any stretch. He’s not a Virgil Van Dijk let’s put it that way. Who successfully went to Southampton for £13m, and then completed a mind boggling £75m move to Liverpool.

“I don’t see Ajer doing that. But I see him following maybe a possible similar path.

And then maybe having a good year to 18 months at Brentford and maybe going somewhere bigger and better.

“But as I’ve said before, if you’re a player playing in the Scottish League, and an English club comes calling and you get thirteen million pounds or upwards you know with add ons and stuff, you should be wearing a striped suit and carrying a swag bag.

“I don’t wish him any ill will. As I say, I’m not a great fan of Ajer but I wish him good luck and see where he can take his career.

“We will watch it with interest”

Ajer certainly sees the move to Brentford as his golden ticket to a top six club, of that there is no doubt and if Celtic do manage to get £13m+ for him, we should say thank you very much an wish him the best.

Ajer always gave 100% for the jersey. A real passionate player and it was that that endeared him to the fans.
