Former Celtic midfielder Stiliyan Petrov is a big fan of defender Kieran Tierney and feels he will one day have world-class ability, potentially moving to a massive club like Manchester United.

There aren’t many Hoops players more popular than Tierney with Celtic supporters and that’s not just because of his homegrown, boyhood fan of the club status.

He is one of the best players in the first-team, providing a constant threat on the left flank and more often than not dealing with attacks from the opposition too.

Petrov has been blown away by his progress and believes he’s set to make a massive move to a bigger league before long.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the former midfielder said:

He has the potential to go on and be world-class, I honestly believe that. He could go to a Manchester United or any other top level club because he has been brought up to play under pressure.

Like all good players he has not just survived in that environment, he has flourished. Those with the temperament to deal with that are the guys who get to the top.

He’s shown he can cope in Europe. In the Champions League he has been excellent. But it is also about the way he behaves on the pitch. He has shown he is a leader.

I don’t know if it will be this summer or next, but at some point Celtic’s resolve will be tested.

And if a huge offer comes in, the reality is you have to take it. I don’t know how much it will be, but it will be no problem to a Manchester United.

Right now the boy just has to keep doing what he is doing.  Celtic should be proud   their system has produced a player like Kieran Tierney.

The left-back has already made close to 170 appearances for the club since bursting into the team as a fresh-faced teenager four years ago.

He’s played a massive amount of football and while that’s been a benefit to his development, it’s also been so much that he’s had injury problems this season due to being overplayed.

Celtic need to sign a left-back this summer to allow Tierney to get the rest he deserves throughout next season and to protect the club from the mega money offers that Petrov describes.

Tierney’s exit, if it ever comes, is probably years away rather than months, so there’s no immediate worry, but we really need competent back-up for him in the squad.

When do you think Kieran Tierney will leave Celtic, if ever? Have your say in the comments below…
