Everton midfielder James McCarthy has been linked with a move to Celtic this week, with talkSPORT presenter Jim White revealing that discussions were set to take place regarding a potential loan move.
Barely a transfer window has gone by over the last few years without some sort of Hoops link to the former Hamilton Accies man, given his boyhood support of the club.
Celtic fans have taken a keen interest in his career after he received criticism and abuse for declaring for the Republic of Ireland national team instead of Scotland’s.
He’s played at a high level for ages now but finds himself on the fringes of the Everton first-team after injury and multiple changes of manager.
The £6.3m-rated (Transfermarkt) 28-year-old needs regular week-to-week football and with Celtic needing to inject some freshness into Brendan Rodgers’ squad, Glasgow could be the perfect destination.
Plenty of fans certainly agree, believing he could really improve the starting eleven.
These supporters took to Twitter this week to share their thoughts…
A relief???? Ad happily take him over most the midfielders we have

Anyone relieved is a simpleton. Would be a sensation in the Hoops.

I blame Fifa ultimate team or Career mode lots of wee guys think we can go sign Tony Kroos or suhin…..McCarthy would be ideal replacement for Brown and would be worth the money.

Don’t why it’s a relief for some folk.Mccarthy has played at a top level for years and would be a great signing for Celtic

The only concern with Mccarthy is fitness. A loan with option to buy in summer would be ideal. An obvious Brown replacement.

If Brown is going he’d be an ideal player to bring in, surely Everton wouldn’t be looking for ridiculous money either?
