Here at Vital Celtic, we reported on how Celtic have been urged to try and sign former England international Jack Wilshere.

The ex Arsenal star was who was once tipped to take the footballing world by storm, has fallen into the wilderness as injury blighted the 29 year olds career.

As Wilshere struggled to find a club, former Celtic player Alan Brazil urged the Hoops to sign him on a short term deal to help with their current injury crisis and to give Wilshere a chance to resurrect his flailing career.

A report has surfaced today claiming that Wilshere would jump at the chance to sign for the Hoops as Noel Whelan from Football Insider says Celtic need a player like Wilshere on their books, “On a pay-as-you-play, you’re not really putting anything at risk.

“The only thing you are doing is maybe gaining a player that can stay fit and contribute to the team.

“We know what Jack is like as a player. When he’s fully fit, on his day, he’s a world-beater, there’s no doubt about that.

“I think the injury problems set him back. He never found his performances again because of the injuries. He’s been working really hard abroad, we know that, to get fit.

“If he is 100 per cent fit, Celtic need a player like that. If there is a pay-as-you-play opportunity for Jack, I think you’ve got to take it.

“At a big club like that, you’ve got to go in there and make sure that you stay fit and you’re putting performances.”

There is no doubt that on his day, Wilshere was a class act, but is it too late now for him to come to a club like Celtic and make an impact?

Does he even have the legs for the demands of Angeball?

There is one thing for sure, Celtic cannot afford to take on another injury risk as the treatment table at Parkhead is already overrun.
