The tweet was a thing of beauty that sent the Twitter-sphere into meltdown. When Conor McGregor said he ‘had a conversation‘ about acquiring some of Celtic’s and Dermot Desmond’s shares to invest in the club, Celtic twitter blew up with it’s usual excited fervor.
One pundit wasn’t having any of it and, quite rightly, suggested that this was a story that needed to be verified by Celtic’s major shareholder but he did suggest something about McGregor that really raised the eyebrows.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Hugh Keevins said, “I’d like to hear Dermot Desmond’s version of events. And it’s only a few weeks since Dermot Desmond took the huff when a newspaper report suggested it may be time for other shareholders to think about making a go for the club.
“He was very defensive of his position. And I don’t think that Dermot Desmond is ready to throw in the towel and sell Celtic.
“I do not think that Conor McGregor would be the person anyway.

“Did Dermot Desmond actually said to him, if indeed Dermot Desmond ever spoke to him. Did he say ‘Do you want to buy my 29% shareholding in Celtic‘.
“You’re talking about the sale of a major football club, you must get into the fine detail. The basic point is you often cannot believe a word he says”
Quite the claim from Keevins that’s bordering on calling one the world’s best MMA fighters a liar. The question is why would McGregor make it up? It’s not as if he’s short of attention as it is!
