Celtic’s youngsters were narrowly beaten 1-0 by German opponents St Pauli in Hamburg.

However, Bahrudin Atajic missed the chance of an equaliser when firing a late penalty over for a youthful side comprising of a number of Under-20 and development squad players.

Christopher Nothe slotted what proved the only goal of the contest past Craig Gordon seven minutes from the interval.

But Amido Balde had already wasted a decent early opportunity when allowing goalkeeper Philipp Tschauner to smother at the other end.

Fellow striker Tony Watt then went close on a couple of occasions before Paul McMullan won a late penalty which the visitors unfortunately couldn’t take advantage of.

Celtic: Gordon, (Zaluska), Herron, O`Connell, Findlay, Twardzik, Henderson, Bitton, McGeouch, Atajic, Balde (McMullan), Watt

subs: Waters, McManus, Irvine, Fraser, Lindsay
