Midfielder. We are in the market for one.

With James McCarthy struggling to find any sort of game time at the Hoops, who knows what lies in store for the Irish international this coming season but with Celtic apparently looking at signing Vinicius Souza, could the club save themselves a few million by asking the question of Fabian Delph?

The Everton stars contract expires in three days time and is set to leave the club on a free transfer this summer.

With no transfer fee involved, the club would be getting an experienced player with a track record of winning trophies.

Delph has 20 caps for England and has won the English Premier League twice, FA Cup, three time winner of the Carling Cup and Victory Shield winner with Manchester City.

Would Jordan Larsson be a good signing for Celtic?

NO

Wages may be an issue as Delph is reportedly on £92,000 a week with The Toffees [Salary Sport] but Delph could look to his former international team mate, Joe Hart, as inspiration for a move north of the border as the Hoops keeper enjoys a new lease of life under Ange Postecoglou.

The only set back could be his injury history.

Delph spent most of last season on the sidelines at Goodison suffering twice from a hamstring injury but with the experience he could offer, surely he would be worth a punt if we could negotiate his wage down?

  • Andy McCarle says:

Imho not a good idea if he’s had hamstring problems, not the way Ange has this team playing.

  • Seppington says:

It’s a big nope from me. Wouldn’t really be saving much money if we have to buy a replacement because Delph’s injured again, and plus he’s too old. Having a pensioner keeper works ok with Angeball if they’re fit enough because there’s not too much running for a goalie. A older defender though? Not so much. With a Lennon or Strachan type maybe but with this manager I’d rule out that kind of signing. Just my opinon.

    • Paddy Sinat says:

Yeah Sep. I see your point. But the experience and winning mentality he could bring would be an asset no?

      • Seppington says:

A winning mentality is great but you have to have the physical fitness to back it up and I don’t think that’s going to be the case for this guy. We don’t need another coach, we need players!

  • John says:

What a load of absolute tosh? Steer well clear of injury prone mid thirties EPL has-beens, only looking for a final pay deal. Hart has at least 3 years left in him. What does this guy have left? Go for early 20s player with something to prove.

    • Paddy Sinat says:

He has experience. Winning mentality. Proven track record in the EPL. For a free, it’s something worth looking at. Not saying we should definitely sign, but at least look at it. HH

  • Fun time frankie says:

Sorry paddy if he’s got hamstring problems let sevco get him ,and he can be the new Gordon Ramsay at least he’ll be able to cook the books for them.

  • Pcelt says:

another cast off, cant get a contract at everton, and you think hes good enough for CELTIC.

    • Paddy Sinat says:

Didn’t say he was good enough for Celtic. I said we should ask the question as to what he could bring to the club.
