I am glad someone else has come and said this as, at times, I feel as if there is a certain media witch hunt going on about Carl Starfelt.

The big Swede signed for Celtic last summer and was thrown into the mini lion’s den at Tyncastle for his debut in a makeshift Celtic side that was ravaged with injury after stepping off a flight from Russia.

An own goal that night set the narrative for some people in the media and steadily, over time, that narrative seems to have turned into an agenda from certain quarters in the punditry business.

I have said before, that Starfelt does make mistakes now and again, but this perception amongst these pundits that he’s somehow a bomb scare is just plain ridiculous.

But you know what? You all know my feelings on this, so let’s take a look at JP Mason and Paul John Dyke’s view on it from A Celtic State of Mind.

Defending our defender, JP called out Hugh Keevins’ pre-match comments on Starfelt, “The defence looked comfortable and Starfelt again, was absolutely filleted by Hugh Keevins on Superscoreboard.

“When Keevins saw the teamsheet, he was like, ‘Oh I don’t know about that. Kobayashi making his debut, he would want to make his debut alongside someone a bit more reliable than Carl Starfelt’.

“And I was like Carl Starfelt has been responsible for this excellent defensive record. It’s not all Carter-Vickers.”

I heard these comments on the way to the game last night and could hardly contain myself. There we have someone with a major platform already telling us that Starfelt will fail before a ball is even kicked.

Paul John agreed and said, “This is the thing.

“People say things without any foundation and that is when I would like to see some data getting wheeled out.

“Because the perception they have on him being a bomb scare, and a lot of people share it it’s got to be said, but when somebody is going onto a very popular mainstream radio channel, they need to be able to back it up.

“They can’t just say things.

“And what you would hope it that if they’re gonna have a strong enough opinion about a player, back it up. Back it up.

“One pass went astray last night but everything else that Starfelt did I thought he did very, very well.”

And that is exactly what Keevins does.

He just says stuff with no foundation, no facts and no figures and many, many times he has been caught out on it on this site and others.

Maybe I should call the show one day to put him right on a few things regarding Starfelt. But then, why should I do Keevins’ job for him.

He’s meant to be a journalist, right?

Who are Celtic’s most capped players from these countries?

Spew Keevins is quite right , Starfelt will never be as good a goalkeeper as Conk Goldson.
That man Keevins is just so anti-Celtic, we should all just make out that he doesn’t exist.
He needs our response to him so he can exist.

Gave up listening to Clyde years ago. For his own good , Auld Shug should be retired and placed in apartment for the elderly

  • OptimusGREEN says:

He’s a good defender but he IS a bombscare with the ball at his feet. I wish he’d just get rid of to a team mate quicker. So I don’t have to get behind the sofa.
