I have never understood these Scottish football fans that claim to not bother about the Scotland national team but are willing to support England. Never. Well, I say never, but unless you are English and live in Scotland, I can forgive you, but Scottish supporting England when you don’t support your own country?
I would even go as far as saying I don’t mind people from Scotland wanting to see England do well but at least support their own team. I say don’t mind, but you get where I am going.
Now, before anyone starts with the nonsense that I am just an England hater etc etc etc…..spare me. This is about rivalry. I want to see our main rivals lose at everything. Everything. Just like I want to see Rangers lose every match they play. It’s all about rivalry.
But there is rivalry and then there is just plain bitterness. Take this caller named “Derek” that called The Go Radio Football Show. He called the show to say James Forrest shouldn’t be in the current Scotland squad. Forgetting all about Forrest’s important goals for Scotland in The Nations League to get us to the position of qualifying and his assists. But I am preaching to the converted here. I don’t need to tell Celtic fans how valuable he is.
Now, for balance (or to cover his bitterness), he did also state Nathan Patterson shouldn’t be in the squad but personally, I fell he threw it in there just to appease.
Anyway Derek went on, “I’m not a Scotland supporter I want England to win the tournament. I think England have a really really good chance at winning it. I’m a big Rangers man. I don’t support Scotland I just think James Forrest has been out most of the season injured and hasn’t done enough to be in the Scotland squad”
Barry Ferguson couldn’t believe what he was hearing and he asked the caller, “I’m just gonnae ask you, you’re Scottish and you support England?”
The “England” fan continued, “I just don’t support Scotland at all. I would just rather England win the tournament. I’ll be out supporting England. I guarantee if you done a poll amongst all Rangers fans it would be 60/40 they would support England”
A truly mind boggling call that sums up the mentality of some, not all, but a minority(?) of Rangers fans.
