When Brendan Rodgers was manager of Celtic it is fair to say his recruitment was ‘questionable’ at points.

For every Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard there was a Marvin Compper, Boli Bolingoli and Vakoun Issouf Bayo.

But it seems there was one more man that caught the eye of Rodgers during his reign as Celtic boss and he has revealed the private conversation via Israeli media channel One and the reasons why he knocked back the Scottish champions.

Maccabi Netanya’s Patrick Twumasi has revealed,  “Before i took the offer from Alaves, the season before we played in the Champions League in the group stage with Astana. “

“We played twice against Scottish Celtic: both in the Europa League and in the Champions League.

“Coach Brendan Rodgers spoke to me personally. It was a great honor. He texted me and I got back to him. He said to me: “Patrick, I’m looking forward to a great career at Celtic, I love the way you play and if you want to come, i’d love to get you in.”

“I also received offers from Apoel Nicosia and Benfica. in practice, i had four suggestions.

“I consulted with my family and my agent to make the right decision for me. My agent said the exposure to football in Scotland is lower, despite the size of the club.

“Everyone is watching the Spanish league and i have to accept the offer from Alaves.”

The Ghanian international made 122 appearances for Alaves before making a loan move to Turkish side Gaziantep and then onto German football with Hannover and eventually ending up at the Israeli Premier side.
