Transfer talk is all the rage at the moment and whilst the Celtic fans guess whether or not we will be adding any more players to the squad in January, there was one interesting suggestion put forward by a fan on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.

Many will remember the Riley McGree ‘transfer‘.

The Australian was trumpeted as a Celtic player by the Scottish media last season even though no contract was signed by the club or the player.

As it turned out, the midfielder chose to ply his trade in Teeside for Championship side Middlesbrough with the hope of getting promotion to the EPL.

It didn’t quite work out that way for him but this season, it looks a lot more promising with his club sitting 7th in the Championship.

But his performances in the World Cup prompted a fan to call the radio station to ask Hugh Keevins if he thought Ange would go back in for the World Cup star.

Keevins said, “I don’t think Ange Postecoglou is the kind of man who would say ‘Well I won’t speak to him again, he turned us down‘.

“He’s too big a character for that. Celtic are well covered in that department.

“However you never know who’s going out in January. Because if Celtic get tempted by big money, and he [Postecoglou] is already on record as saying people will go.

“But the problem you have is that everyone else can see how well Riley McGree has done so Celtic wouldn’t exactly go in unopposed.”

The other problem you have is that he would cost silly money. The kind of money that Celtic just don’t have.

McGree is, no doubt, a very good player but the breakdown of that move didn’t exactly leave us high and dry.

Matt O’Riley joined the club and he has been a revelation so let’s just leave McGree where he is.

Big clubs are not for everyone.
