Cash-rich club will have to cough up at least eight figures to land Celtic star

|

If you weren’t aware that transfer silly season is in full swing at Celtic then let this latest story from The Scottish Sun remind you.

The paper say that James Forrest is a transfer target for Liverpool having tracked his progress and form for a number of months.

While that seems far-fetched enough, the story goes on to claim that the Hoops would let Forrest leave for an £8m fee.

Given his important to Brendan Rodgers’ side this season, it seems absurd we would let him go for such a small figure when his contract does not expire until 2022 and the player seems exceptionally happy at the club right now.

The 27-year-old is having an incredible season, scoring 11 times and assisting 17 more in 34 appearances in all competitions. With five goals for Scotland too, he’s certainly attracting attention but it seems unlikely the Reds will be making a move for him any time soon.

If they are seriously interested then they’ll have to cough up a lot more than £8m, with the figure likely stretching well into eight figures before his boyhood club would contemplate it.

There’s a title to win and a treble to reach for and letting go of Forrest in the middle of that would be a disaster without adequate replacement.
