Ajeti in derby fitness race as Lennon reveals striker’s injury “blow” for Celtic

|

Albian Ajeti faces a race against time to be fit for the first Glasgow derby of the season after suffering what appears to be a hamstring injury whilst scoring his side’s second goal against Hibs on Sunday.

Neil Lennon hopes that he could just be out for a couple of weeks though and The Daily Record reported after the 3-0 win that the gaffer is optimistic it is nothing too sinister:

“Albian looks like he’s tweaked a hamstring so we’re hoping it will only be one or two weeks.

“But he’ll not play on Thursday which is a blow because he’s in brilliant goal scoring form.”

The Swiss star has been something of a revelation since signing from West Ham, Vital Celtic had predicted that, given a run of games and in the right formation, the 23-year old could be a hit and having barely started a handful of games, he now finds himself leading the way for goals scored in the Scottish Premiership.

You can only start one:

One other striker notable by his inclusion was forgotten man Leigh Griffiths and Lennon expressed his delight at having him back and available for selection:

“I’m delighted for Leigh, although he didn’t get game time today but it’s a real step in the right direction. I’m hoping he will contribute as we go along because he’s still got plenty to offer, as far as I’m concerned.”

Celtic will just have to make do with Odsonne Edouard leading the line against Sarajevo on Thursday in the Europa League play-off round, the final hurdle before group stage football is guaranteed once again, and hopefully the form of Ajeti has been enough to spark the young Frenchman back into life – don’t be surprised if the boss goes back to a 4-2-3-1 formation, it wouldn’t be a European night if he didn’t throw a surprise.
