Celtic are worried about losing teenage defensive prospect Liam Morrison to Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The paper say that the 16-year-0ld is considered by many as the ‘best centre-half prospect in the country’ and that the Hoops are desperate to tie him down to a long-term professional contract to fend off interest from elite English clubs.

It’s Hoffenheim that pose the most immediate threat though, with former Celtic scout David Moss said to be the mastermind behind the youngster’s potential move to Germany.

Morrison only turned 16 this month and to lose one of our best defensive prospects to a bigger league before he’s even had a chance to make a significant impact in the Reserves side would be a worrying new danger to our hopes of bringing through players from the academy to the first-team.

We’ve already been battling cash-rich English clubs when it comes to retaining our talent, but if other European sides also start hovering around Lennoxtown then the whole process will only become more difficult.

Here’s hoping the club can convince him his promising future is best served in Glasgow.
