Quoted by the Daily Record, Guillem Balague has played down the idea of Rafa Benitez leaving Newcastle in the summer window.

Many of us want to see him come in and he is a favourite to potentially join the club but Balague has said that a Premier League stay is more what Benitez wants – ideally with Newcastle.

We perhaps shouldn’t be overly surprised by this too.

Of course, he has a better chance of winning trophies with us but, at the end of the day, he’s never been a manager that’s struck me as wanting out of the top leagues in Europe.

He’s mainly been based in Spain, Italy or England and I cannot see that changing when he clearly wants to make a success of Newcastle.

Yes, it would be absolutely brilliant to have him in the dugout as we go for 10 in a row in the coming years but I think, for now, we can say goodbye to that.
