Celtic’s towering centre-half, Christopher Jullien, has backed his side to hold off the challenge of their Glasgow rivals despite them investing millions in their playing squad, according to an interview reported by The Daily Record.

The Parkhead side remain the undisputed top side in Scotland having strolled to an unprecendented 11 consecutive trophies with every chance of a 12th when the 2019/20 Scottish Cup resumes, but the £7million signing from last summer has given a word of warning over their rivals attempts to dethrone them from their lofty perch as the undisputed champions:

“Rangers are definitely going to be stronger, for sure.

“They are our opponent. They are going to take some more players in to add something and make them champions. That’s normal. That’s what we expect.

“But that’s also why we’ve worked hard since we came back. We know our group is really good and really strong – but we also know that our opponents will be stronger. Us too.

“Rangers have bought some players and that’s good for them. But I’m really proud of what we are and what we’ve done since the beginning or pre-season.

“I just can’t wait for the marathon to begin.”

Hoops fans may be frustrated with the lack of signings but in reality, only the departure of Fraser Forster has weakened the starting XI – with Mohamed Elyounoussi returning on loan again – and even then, the addition of Vasilios Barkas has more than made up for The Great Wall’s return to Southampton.

Neil Lennon has been linked with several bids for strikers to bolster his attack but with a squad that was on course to break all sorts of records last season, he knows that he doesn’t need wholesale changes to once again maintain the status quo.
