Celtic are set to offer Scott Brown a two-year deal with the promise of a coaching role at the end of it, hoping to fight off big money interest from newly-formed Australian side Western Melbourne, according to The Scottish Sun.

The paper report that the A-League team could be willing to double the money Brown is currently on at Celtic Park in their bid to lure him across the world on a three-year contract.

Rodgers though wants him to stay at the club and has sanctioned the latest contract offer and has spoken about Brown’s future at the club, if he stays or goes at the end of the season.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, the Hoops boss said:

He is a really influential figure in the changing room. Whatever happens in the future there will always be a role back here at Celtic.

You never know, he might one day do what Lenny did and captain the club for so long and then move into management, if he is mad enough!

I took him out of that side of it when I came in to get him focused on playing. He has leadership qualities and skills, absolutely.

Hopefully the promise of a coaching job at the end of a two-year extension is enough for Brown to commit his future to the club, although there are plenty of benefits to a potentially life-changing move to Australia on big money too.

He may be entering the twilight stages of his hugely successful career but the captain has plenty to offer the team on and off the pitch, even if Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor are showing more and more in the middle of the park every week.
