New signing Freddie Ljungberg says the passion of Celtic supporters was one of the main reasons for his decision to move to Glasgow.
“If you’re looking for passion then it’s here. There is great support. The fans and the passion are very good” – Freddie Ljungberg |
The 33-year-old former Swedish international midfielder has joined the Hoops until May after leaving Chicago Fire and is expected to be on the bench in the latest Old Firm derby this weekend.
“In America the league is much better than it gets credit for but Celtic are a massive club and what I missed was the passion for the sport,” Ljungberg told BBC Scotland. “If you’re looking for passion then it’s here. There is great support. The fans and the passion are very good.”
Ljungberg has already been given the number seven shirt at Parkhead, which was previously famously worn by his countryman Henrik Larsson.
“When I was at Arsenal I had Ian Wright’s number and he was a legend there,” he added. “I’ll try to do the same here with the number seven shirt – to wear it with pride and do my best.”
