Celtic’s youth policy has taken a bit of a battering in recent seasons.

Not because it is not producing talent because it most certainly is.

Hanging onto them has been the one single issue that has been a bug bare of mine for a couple of years now.

We have sat and watched as players like Ben Doak, Leo Hjeld and Vincent Angelini left the club and signed deals with some of Europes top clubs.

And what seemed to be the overriding factor for all moves was that there was no plan for these youngsters to break into the first team.

Well that plan now seems to be in place ever since Ange Postecoglou took over and it seems, now, that we are starting to see more players commit their futures to the club.

But the players that are gone? They will need replenished.

And it seems Ange has turned his attention to Japhet Matondo according to reports this morning [Football Scotland].

Matondo is just 16 years old and can play either left wing, wing back and can be deployed on the right wing too.

Celtic hope to take advantage of the cross border rule where the club would only be required pay Cardiff City £130,000 for Matondo’s services.

Clearly this will be a signing for the future should it happen but it is expected that the youngsters future will be settled within the next week or two.
