It is well known Celtic are looking to strengthen this summer.

Key positions have long been mooted as being the priorities are left back, central midfield and striker.

I caveated that earlier in the month when I wrote that the Hoops should be looking to bring in sufficient back up to Joe Hart as, clearly, Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain are not looking to be part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

Now, I know, Bain was just recently given an extended contract but even in the latter stages of the season, I would have expected him to see some sort of action in the first team.

And one player that could fulfill that back up role to Hart is Dundee United’s Benji Siegrest.

Here at Vital Celtic, we wrote back in March how Chris Sutton backed a Hoops move for the keeper when the former Celtic striker said, “If I’m Celtic I go out and buy him at the end of the season as back up.

“I really like him. He’s had a number of seasons at Dundee United now.

“I think he is a brilliant goalkeeper.”

And it seems they may not have to buy him as Siegrest is out of contract as is confirmed as on the move according to team mate Charlie Mulgrew.

Speaking on Open Goal, [via The Courier] Mulgrew said, “We [United] will lose a few. We’ll lose big Benji [Siegrist], so we’ll need a keeper.

“Hopefully we can keep Dylan Levitt, but I don’t know if we will because he is very good.”

Could Celtic be his next destination or has the 30 year old Swiss keeper got other plans in mind?

We will watch with interest.
