Celtic look set to finally secure the left-back addition that would appear to be the final piece in Neil Lennon’s jigsaw.

Diego Laxalt of AC Milan is on his way and if he completes his medical without any hitches, he will become a Celtic player, albeit just on loan for the season, according to The Scottish Sun.

Just two seasons ago, the Italian giants paid around £12.5million for his services but he has been unable to reproduce his form of 2018 leading to him dropping down the pecking order – as a Uruguayan international, it would be a great bit of business if Nick Hammond gets it over the line.

The gaffer was asked about any potential deals after his side’s late 2-0 win over St Johnstone but refused to be drawn into commenting on any rumours:

“I’m not talking about any speculation.

“You could throw any number of names at me but we are working on one or two things and hopefully we can accomplish a few things.

“We have 24 hours.”

With just Greg Taylor available as a specialist left-sided defender, it is the only obvious hole that needed to be plugged following Boli Bolingoli’s departure, and if he was to get Laxalt through the door it would not just be a welcome addition to the squad but it would be a considerable upgrade on what he currently has a his disposal.

Taylor hasn’t let anyone down and, with four assists to his name, he is currently outperforming his more exciting teammate on the opposite flank, however, the obvious comparisons with Kieran Tierney aren’t doing him any favours – bringing in an experienced World Cup campaigner would do much to ease the burden.
