I think, perhaps, the club should be focusing their efforts in landing Jota 1.0 before heading to Benfica to replicate their loan success of last season.

After Jota’s season of wonder has all the fans clamouring for the club to make the loan move permanent, a report  from the Daily Record claims Celtic are hoping to copy their Jota success by attempting to land £7m rated Benfica midfielder Paulo Bernardo.

Bernardo is currently on international duty with the Portuguese u21’s but there appears to be talks being held between both clubs about a possible loan move with a £7m option to buy clause at the end of the deal.

It is claimed by the report that Bernardo has turned down the move as he wants to play in the Portuguese top flight next season.

Bernardo made 34 appearances for The Eagles last season scoring two and creating two and has over 40 international appearances from u15 to u21 level for Portugal.

Clearly highly rated, Bernardo does look as if he feels confident that he will be able to cement his place further in the Benfica first team and it seems, for that reason alone, is the deciding factor of rejecting a summer move to Paradise.

I would suggest the club focus their efforts in trying to secure Jota on a longer term permanent contract BEFORE looking to land a similar player on loan.

Or is that simply the point?
