Chris Sutton’s reaction to penalty miss was bang on the money

It was always going to be a pipe dream wasn’t it?

Celtic taking anything from Real Madrid was always going to be a difficult task.

Never mind a point, even scoring a goal was probably asking too much because if we are all honest with ourselves, Madrid are on a different stratosphere in terms of footballing ability.

So, a goal. What better chance to get on the scoresheet than being awarded a penalty?

And with our main penalty taker at the helm, it’s a guaranteed goal to pull it back to 2-1 right?

Wrong. Juranovic stepped up and Thibaut Courtois guessed correctly.

After Courtois saved the penalty, Sutton said on commentary on BT Sports, “Well that sort of sums up Celtic in the Champions League doesn’t it?”

Pretty much Chris.

Chances created and chances missed is the story of this campaign and the missed penalty is kind of a perversely correct way to bow out of the tournament.

To be fair to Josip though, it was a well struck penalty. Nothing reallynl wrong with it.

Courtois just used his huge frame to his advantage and parried it out.

Another Champions League night is another learning curve for this group of players because that’s all we can do now.

Next year will be the acid test. Next year will tell us if we have learned our lessons and you can be sure that, under Ange, this team will have.

Who were Celtic’s most expensive transfers these seasons?
