There is certainly nothing that surprises me about this Celtic board.
From appointing managers in the showers to ending a CEO’s stint after just three months. Serious questions need to be asked about the direction they are taking the club.
The long fabled January review is now nine months overdue and Ange Postecoglou still doesn’t have a Head of Recruitment, a Director of Football or a CEO.
The results on the park have certainly taken the heat off the board but will this next proposed appointment highlights just how out of touch they are with the fans.
Prominent fan action group, Fans Against Criminalisation (F.A.C.) released a statement on twitter today condemning the club for their proposed appointment of Assistant Chief Constable Bernard Higgins to a senior role within the club.
The role that he played in vindictively implementing the OBFA cannot be overstated. He routinely demonstrated a disdain for football supporters and directed his police force to harass, intimidate and criminalise largely young, working class football fans for nearly a decade. pic.twitter.com/JlLQ4gty9B

His appointment would be an insult to the ordinary fans who suffered at the hands of the police. We urge Celtic FC to rethink this appointment, as there are few people in the country less equipped to look after the safety of supporters than the Assistant Chief Constable. pic.twitter.com/zua6RsjpKe

It’s a move that will upset the fans of the club as they remember the times they were routinely “kettled” by the police as they made their way to Celtic Park.
This potential appointment has been met with widespread condemnation by the Celtic fans on social media platform, Twitter, and it seems that the board could come under serious pressure if they allow this to take place:
@CelticFC this is an utter dereliction of your duty to fan welfare. Why do this? We are the lifeblood of the club not the enemy within that needs thia man dehumanising us. Think again

Worse than anything they done last season. If they attempt this then we need to be in the car park every game protesting until this gets scrapped.

Make no mistake this is a provocative appointment from a board who wants to target a large section of celtic support. Hopefully a coordinated response across the fan groups rejecting this appointment.

Once again the board show how out of touch they are with the fans who pay their wages.
Disgusting decision been made here— 🏴🇸🇩 McGoo 🏴🇸🇩 (@mcgoo44) October 28, 2021
Just went you thought our board couldn’t get anymore out of touch or make a shocking decision
— Guiseppe O’Gorman 🇮🇹 (@ogorman71) October 28, 2021
@CelticFCSLO is this true? The club appointing a guy who deliberately attcked innocent member of our support and got a lot of them up in court
— Chris Harkins (@Harky83) October 28, 2021
Whether or not the board go ahead with this remains to be seen but one thing is clear, this would be a hugely unpopular decision and they should rethink this, and soon.
