In true “look there’s a squirrel” fashion, a story has emerged that claims Odsonne Edouard was the subject of late Bundesliga interest before the transfer window “slammed” shut.

The original article appeared in The Athletic but was reported on by The Scottish Sun in which no specific details are given over potential bids – or even which club was involved – other than to claim that it was rejected out of hand.

The lack of information in the story would suggest that someone from within the Parkhead hierarchy has leaked the story to try to deflect from the weekend’s disastrous performance, hoping that it would restore faith that they have the same objectives as the support.

Edouard was heavily linked with a move from Parkhead throughout the summer with Arsenal seemingly the most likely destination, however, with Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette agreeing to stay at The Emirates, the chances of a concrete offer was always unlikely.

Neil Lennon now faces a battle to help the 22-year old rediscover the form he showed in the early months of 2020 which played a huge part in seeing Celtic win nine in a row, he has been alarmingly out of touch in the last month or so and his recent coronavirus diagnosis will have done little to help matters.

Has Edouard downed tools?

Edouard was available for selection but there has been no further information as to why he wasn’t even involved in the squad, the player claimed that he was feeling “fine” after the positive test, and yes, he arrived back in the country the day before the game but Alfredo Morelos managed to play and he had flown back from Colombia.

The gaffer has already suggested that there is an issue with his focus, the last thing he needs is yet another disgruntled player causing him problems.
