As Celtic and Rangers continue to battle it out for the title and the £40m Champions League bounty that awaits the crowned champions, news has surfaced today that will be a huge boost to Celtic.

In light of UEFA’s decision to ban Russian clubs from all of their European competitions due the ongoing invasion of Ukraine, Scotland have moved up one spot in the rankings not only guaranteeing Champions League football for the league winners but also Europa League conference group football.

Second place in the SPFL means that the third qualifying round for the Champions League beckons for the runner which then guarantees entry to the Europa Conference League.

There was always nagging doubts on whether or not Scotland’s SPFL winner would be guaranteed Champions League group stage football, but these latest developments out of incredibly unfortunate circumstances allow the club to at least budget for next season now knowing that Europe’s top clubs will be waiting in the wings next season.

Ange Postecoglou’s side picked up another three precious points against St Mirren last night in. 2-0 win that keeps the gap at the top at just three points with just nine games to go.
