Ex Hoops skipper predicts prolific winner will be “difficult to replace”

|

Former Celtic skipper, Jackie McNamara, feels that Scott Brown has shown there are plenty miles left in the tank with his performances over the course of this season.

McNamara highlights, in an interview with Football Insider, how Brown can adapt to playing in the twilight years of an illustrious career.

So what has McNamara said?

When asked about Brown’s consistency and endurance at the age of 34, McNamara said:

“Yeah, he can play for another few years in that team”.

“He’s been fantastic, but with having players around him who have legs, it helps, he keeps things simple, he breaks things up, I think he’ll be really difficult to replace”.

“He does a great job for Celtic in there, keeps everything ticking and I think he can keep going for at least the next couple of years”.

So is McNamara correct?

The arrival of Neil Lennon as Celtic gaffer appears to have given Brown a new lease of life, the former Scotland skipper has played 36 times already this season, a staggering amount for a player of his age and a testament to his professionalism and fitness.

Brown no longer needs to be the driving force of the team with the likes of Callum McGregor, James Forrest and Ryan Christie all experienced winners, instead, he performs a protective role in front of the back four and mops up any danger in transition although he is still capable of dragging his team to victory – as shown by his stoppage time winner against Hamilton recently.

How much longer will Scott Brown play for?

One season

Two to three seasons

Two to three seasons

More than three seasons

McNamara is right, Brown shows no signs of slowing down, if he did, he wouldn’t be capable of performing to the same levels with such consistency, Lennon will need to replace his talisman at some point – but that day doesn’t look like coming any time soon.
