Former Premier League forward Noel Whelan has hailed the performances on in-form Celtic star Odsonne Edouard as he has led his team to an almost unassailable lead in the Scottish Premiership.

Whelan, speaking to Football Insider, was effusive in his praise of the Frenchman as he continues to tear defences apart on the club’s charge to 9-in-a-row.

So what has Whelan said?

Speaking about Edouard’s form since the turn of the year, Whelan said:

“He’s loving it, he’s come into the second part of the season firing on all cylinders.”

“He just looks like a man possessed with that hunger and desire, taking games by the scruff of the neck and he seems unplayable at time.”

“His goals that he’s scoring are fantastic goals; well controlled, well finished, also his free-kicks, brave enough to get onto the free-kicks and put them into the back of the net.”

“It seems like everything is clicking into gear for Edouard and Neil Lennon must be over joyed with the performances he’s putting.”

So is Whelan correct?

Absolutely, Edouard has been key to the form that has seen the Hoops win every game since returning from the winter break and scoring 29 goals in the process to take his side from just two points in front of nearest rivals Rangers to ten points clear at the top of the league.

He is capable of not just scoring any type of goal but also creating for his teammates and although Neil Lennon has thrown an extra striker up front to partner him in attack he remains the focal point for Celtic as they look to complete yet another domestic clean sweep.

Rumours have intensified this season linking him with a £40m move to the Premier League and with every passing week the price tag is only going to rise, especially if he can fire his side to Europa League success too with Copenhagen next up on the fixture list.

Moussa Dembele left Celtic for £19.7m a couple of seasons ago but Edouard has arguably gone on to surpass his countryman in terms of both ability and value should he be tempted to make the move south.

Will Edouard be at Celtic next season?

Yes

No

No

Hoops fans will be hoping that he sticks around for another season with an historic 10-in-a-row on the horizon, the last thing they would want to lose is their most influential and talented player.
