Do you know what the most exciting thing about this season is?

To see how this Celtic team will progress under Ange Postecoglou.

Much was made last season about how the Australian manager always seems to make his mark on his second year at a club.

Well, if last season is anything to go by, this season should be very exciting for the fans.

But when you look at the depth of talent we have in the side, is there really one person you can pinpoint on who will be our best player?

Look at the midfield. We have Callum McGregor, Matt O’Riley and David Turnbull who all made their mark on the side.

That’s even before we talk about players like Jota, Abada and Kyogo in the forward lines.

In defence, Juranovic continues to impress and Greg Taylor has picked up where he left off from last season and Carter Vickers will be as solid as ever.

To pick one player from just those mentioned as to who will be our top performer is a tough ask.

But former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie thinks he knows who will step up to be that man.

Speaking in Football Insider, McAvennie said, “I’m a big fan of Hatate.

“I think he will be the star player this season. I think he is going to be awesome, I really do.

“Some of his footwork and some of his link-up with [Matt] O’Riley, [Callum] McGregor and Jota was incredible yesterday. It was good to watch.

“That’s what the manager wants. He’s so intense going forward.”

Hatate showed fairly quickly what he was all about after he was signed in the January window.

A debut screamer against Hearts followed up with a derby goal against Rangers set the expectations high amongst the Celtic support.

But as the season went on, Hatate admitted that even he was feeling the effects of playing a full season in the J League followed up with a tough title run-in in the SPFL, performances waned for the Japanese international.

Now that he has had a summer of rest and a full pre-season under his belt, there are already signs that Hatate is going to be a major player this season for the club.

It looks like McAvennie could be bang on the money with this prediction.
