I must say, I’ve not heard a single thing online about this. I spend a lot of time online on social media, forums and fan groups gauging fan opinion about the team and this is the first time even I have heard of online criticism of Daizen Maeda.

The Japanese forward, according to journalist Mark Guidi, has been the subject of some online criticism by the Celtic fans.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Guidi said, “I’m not in for this.

“This thing that’s gathering using social media where everything needs to be 100% and it takes four or five people to start a rumbling and all of a sudden it becomes a national debate in terms of football.

“Maeda has been in the country seven weeks, eight weeks a part of that, he has been back with with Japan. He flew back in during the night to be on the bench for the Glasgow Derby.

“So that shows his appetite, his desire, his commitment.

“But to say he’s not up to wearing the Celtic jersey as some people are trying to say online, if it’s growing a wee bit of arms and legs.

“I’m not having it. He’s cost a million quid maybe about over a million quid. He’s going to be a value for money.

“He’s going to make a valuable contribution.

“Yeah, he might not be the number one striker when Kyogo Furuhashi is back. That’s fine.

“But he is an important part of the Celtic squad and I’m absolutely not having it if there is any criticism trying to grow arms and legs about him.”

Have I missed this? Have I missed this surge of online criticism for Maeda that everyone else has seen?

Don’t get me wrong, Maeda hasn’t set the heather on fire but he certainly hasn’t been poor enough to warrant any kind of online criticism in my eyes.

What people need to remember is that the Japanese speed demon has come off the back of a full season in the J League and if his form does dip or energy levels then we could understand it.

But as far as the fan criticism goes, I think this has been blown well out of proportion.
