“It’s great to be back” – Mikey Johnson is ready and raring to go

|

Mikey Johnson returns to full training as the Celtic team enjoy their winter training camp in Dubai. The winger went under the knife in August last year as an injury picked up at McDairmid Park last January continued to flair up, hampering his recovery and return to first team football.

Speaking to Celtic TV from Dubai, Johnson seemed in buoyant mood, “It just makes me so happy being on the pitch and obviously been out for so long was hard. There’s a lot of hard work that went in to get myself back where I am so I’m just happy to be back on the pitch with the boys again.

“Its definitely been frustrating (watching from the sidelines), especially in the games we’ve been struggling a bit recently. We weren’t even allowed to go to the games, because of the COVID stuff. So that was tough having to watch it from the couch in the house but I’m just happy to be back.

Speaking of taking a penalty at the Scottish Cup Final shootout, Johnson went on, “I just thought it’d be a good way to bounce back after being out for so long. It would have been something that I definitely would have regretted. Probably for the rest of my life if I didn’t take it. Scoring a penalty in the Scottish Cup final so I’m just buzzing that I’ve done it.

“The training has been hard, definitely our sessions have been good, competitive and the boys have been working really hard. Obviously after the defeat at Ibrox was a tough one for us to take but everyone’s out here with a good mindset and we’re working hard every day.

We’ve got a lot of games coming up after the break as well and that was definitely an opportunity for us to come in and get fit and work really hard and I think we’ve made the most out so far.”
