The semi final defeat is a disappointment. Of that there is no doubt.

And with a loss of such magnitude, especially to your closest rivals, there will always be a major fall out of some sorts.

Whilst some fans go overboard, the majority are mostly level headed.

And Kieran Devlin offered his take, and a bit of sanity, to the proceedings in his post match analysis of the cup exit.

Speaking in The Athletic, Devlin said, “There was always going to be bumps in the road this season given the extent of player turnover, squad depth and adaptations to new manager’s methods.

“Think Postecoglou has also been a victim of his own success in a way, because standards have been so high over the season that expectations have risen with it.”

And I think that is it in a nutshell.

The depths of disappointment comes after what we witnessed last weekend and the preceding fixtures beforehand.

An unbeaten run since September will make the fans feel as if the team is, well, unbeatable when the truth is, we are just not at the Invincibles level yet.

That’s not to say we won’t be.

Ange is less than a year into the job and look at what he has achieved already.

It’s exciting, no, frightening, to think of what he can and will achieve in his second year in charge.
