Celtic frontman Kyogo Furuhashi spoke to English-language magazine Tokyo Weekender about his first year at the club and what his aims are for club and country.

Kyogo signed for Celtic in the 2021 summer window and went on to have his season halted by injury. The Japanese superstar spent a long 3 months on the side-line encouraging his teammates. Despite the injury, he had a fantastic first season in Glasgow by playing a big part in the League and League Cup double as well as becoming a fan favourite. Kyogo in the interview expressed his love for the club’s support and its unique atmosphere: “Getting those supporters off their feet when you hit the net; there’s no feeling like it… its hard to put into words what it means to be here.”  This is great to hear for us Celtic supporters as it shows that Kyogo has a real hunger and desire to create success for not only his teammates but the supporters in and out the stadiums.

Kyogo aims to be joining his national side at the World cup: “My first goal is to be on the plane and then get picked to start.” To achieve this goal of his, Kyogo has his full focus on performing to his highest standard for Celtic: “Nothings guaranteed until the squad has been chosen, though. In the meantime, I just have to show I’m good enough by giving everything I’ve got to help Celtic.” This shows that next season will be an exciting one for Kyogo as he will try to play to the best of his abilities to achieve his goal of playing at the World Cup and there is no better competition to impress, than the UEFA Champions League.
