Lennon hopes to deliver “something this week” as he reveals Celtic’s latest transfer plans

|

Celtic supremo, Neil Lennon, has given an encouraging transfer update with the news that there may be an imminent announcement with regards to the troubling goalkeeper position as reported by The Scottish Sun.

As well as playing down rumours linking Kristoffer Ajer with a move away from the club, Lennon revealed that there has been no damage caused to his transfer budget by the Covid-19 pandemic.

When asked if he was close to making any signings before the season kicks off in a couple of weeks time, he said:

“Listen, I’ve had no indication from Peter that the climate has changed. It’s business as usual as far as I am concerned.

“But I’m not close to anything just now. I’m spinning a few plates but there’s nothing concrete at the moment.

“There are a couple of positions that we are looking to strengthen.

“Goalkeeper is one of them and we are working on a number of options. Hopefully there may be something this week.

“We are working on a number of options for other positions, too.”

Music to Hoops fans ears with just Scott Bain as a recognised, senior keeper in an area of the field that has seen three internationals available for selection for the position drop to just one.

There aren’t many positions that Lennon actually needs to strengthen his first XI, retention has always been more important than recruitment this summer and players like Patryk Klimala and Ismaila Soro will now be expected to contribute having been bought for decent money in January with little impact made so far.

The rumour mill is surprisingly quiet with only a recent report that Nick Hammond continues to monitor David Turnbull’s return to action for Motherwell, although they may face stiffer competition this time around should they go back in for the midfielder.

Lennon’s squad doesn’t need anything other than fine tuning, an enviable position for managers up and down the country as he looks to finish what he started by leading his side to a record tenth consecutive title.
