Leigh Griffiths is closing in on a return to Celtic action, with Neil Lennon hopeful he could play before the end of the season, as reported by The Scotsman.

Griffiths hasn’t played for the club since December after taking a hiatus from football to deal with off the field personal problems.

Recently though he’s been working hard on his fitness at Lennoxtown with a view to making a first-team return sooner rather than later.

Lennon has noted his hard work in his pre-Kilmarnock press conference and is waiting on fitness test results to determine whether he will feature before the end of the season.

As quoted by The Scotsman, the Celtic Park boss said:

We will have a fair idea how far away Leigh is after today’s results.

He has a bit of work to do but yes, hopefully he’ll be back, which should be a bonus because we have missed his goals, there is no question of that.

He needs to get some calmness and stability in his life and the football can take care of itself.

If you have carnage going on off the field it is going to catch up with you eventually. He knows that and is working very hard behind the scenes which is great.

With 104 goals in 202 appearances for the club, it’s fair to say that Griffiths offers a potent goal threat when playing for the Hoops and the sooner he is back the better, as long as he is able to cope with the pressures that will come with a return of course.

The most important thing is his personal health and clearly the club and coaching staff are showing plenty of patience in order to give him the space he requires to sort things out.

I can’t wait to see him back in action and if it comes before the end of the season, he could give this team a real attacking boost, and we need it considering our wastefulness in front of goal recently.

  • I for one would love to see Griff back, but in the mean time , we should be playing two up front! Play three at the back, dropping Lustic, and get the ball in to the box much quicker , instead of trying to walk the all into the net,! Why do we practice shooting from outside the box, before every game, and then forget all about it, when the they go on to the park!!?. Some times we have to be a wee bit more aware,of where are on the pitch, and shoot a lot sooner! Come on Bhoys, let’s get this league dozen up, and put the under 18 on at ibrokes,. If the league won show them over ibrokes way some contempt, and laugh at them!. They would do it to us, so , pot calling the teapot “black bum” fits so nicely!. Hail Hail.
