Lennon set to lose out to Championship side as keeper crisis continues

|

Craig Gordon appears to be one step closer to the Parkhead exit door with the news that he has been offered a 2-year deal at Hearts and a place on Robbie Neilson’s new look management team at Tynecastle according to The Scottish Sun.

Much has been made of Neil Lennon’s struggle to bolster his goalkeeping department with Celtic being no nearer – if anything, further away – to securing the return of Fraser Forster, in any capacity, for next season.

Although Hearts look set to play their football in the Championship next season, depending on the outcome of legal action, Gordon is being tipped to return to the club where he made his name and would be guaranteed first-team action in the process – something that has been in limited supply in the last 18-months of his Celtic deal.

With no real clamour for his removal from Brendan Rodgers’s starting line-up, Gordon saw his place taken by Scott Bain after injury forced him onto the sidelines, when he returned to full fitness, both his Celtic and Scotland place had been taken by the man who had formerly been his understudy.

Lennon has reportedly offered a new deal to Gordon but he was unhappy at the terms and went as far as to say that the club would have to do better if they wanted to retain his services, the stopper also revealed that St Mirren had been interested but the Paisley club have since signed former third choice keeper at Rangers, Jak Alnwick.

A new man for between the sticks remains a priority for the Hoops given the departure of not only two reliable goalies, but two internationals with a raft of experience in the Champions League – replacing them with a player(s) of similar quality is proving to be a difficult task in such an unpredictable transfer market.
