Long-term stay for January Celtic signing is completely ruled out

West Bromwich Albion manager Darren Moore is adamant that January Celtic signing Oliver Burke will be returning to the English Championship side in the summer.

Although everyone knows that Burke has signed up on a six-month loan basis, some fans had hoped that there could be scope for either an extended loan beyond that or even a permanent contract considering he’s barely played for the Baggies this season.

Moore though sees this as a move that will help West Brom first and foremost, claiming they need the winger back at his best and competing for places ahead of the new season.

As quoted by The Express & Star, the manager said of the situation:

Hopefully we get him back at full throttle. He’s with a quality group of players, a club trying to win the Scottish Premiership.

He’s working with an elite manager, at a club steeped in tradition. All that bodes well for his learning.

Oli wants to play. It’s been difficult for him. It’s important he doesn’t go and sit around for the second half of the season.

We need him coming back in the summer ready and contesting for a starting place at West Brom.

Ultimately if Burke helps Celtic win trophies this season then fans won’t complain, but it is a little disappointing to hear that there is absolutely zero scope for the Hoops to get more out of this signing than a couple of dozen games at the most.

Burke is an exciting talent and you would back Brendan Rodgers to fill him with confidence and get the best out of him.

Here’s hoping he can make his short stay in Glasgow a memorable one.
