The Scottish Football Association were meeting the Scottish Senior Football Referees’ Association on Tuesday with a view to avoiding this weekend’s proposed strike.
“We are looking around Europe, talking to a number of associations and trying to put a contingency plan in place” – SFA’s Stewart Regan
SFA chief executive Stewart Regan said that he hoped to provide referees with “assurances about support going forward” in a bid to prevent the walkout.
“The primary focus is to make sure the fixtures are officiated,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live. “We are looking around Europe, talking to a number of associations and trying to put a contingency plan in place.”
Regan is believed to be fixing his attentions on securing referees from Ireland and Scandinavia to cover around twenty games threatened by the Scottish officials’ decision to strike this weekend.
“In the first instance we are keen to understand what we could do as an association to make sure the games could go ahead this weekend,” he assured.
