SFA president George Peat has launched a veiled attack on Celtic as a result of the intended referees strike this coming weekend.
“I feel the reputation has been tarnished with some of the comments that have come out over the last week or so” – SFA’s George Peat |
Whilst not condoning the actions of the officials, Peat has expressed sympathy for them after coming under increasing attack during recent weeks.
And although he wasn’t exactly referring to Celtic by name as the main perpetrators, it was pretty clear in which direction his vitriol was being sent.
“The behaviour of some people in recent weeks has tarnished the image of Scottish football. It has demeaned the game,” Peat told the Scottish Sun. “The climate of inference, innuendo and conspiracy theories must stop.”
And when challenged to expand further, he added: “You can judge for yourself. I’m not mentioning any names. I feel the reputation has been tarnished with some of the comments that have come out over the last week or so.
“Referees have always had criticism. Most clubs fortunately take that as part of the game and they leave them alone. We hope to have meetings with them. All we’ve been told is that they’re going on strike. We’ve got no reason to believe what their reasons really are.”
