One high profile Celtic departure could still be on the cards

|

The January transfer is a strange window for Celtic fans.

Normally we are used to late, late, late business being done and even at that, it’s done poorly.

The fact that Celtic got their business done early left the last few days of the window dragging by and deadline day feeling like a holiday!

But as Celtic tried and, at first glances, failed to get some players out on the final day, it seems that Vasilis Barkas could still be one that makes the road out of Paradise.

Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos tweeted in the final hour of the deadline day, “Celtic Vasilis Barkas was proposed also to several clubs from Turkey. No response yet

No response yet doesn’t mean no. And as I wrote last night, there are many transfer windows across Europe still left open.

Including Turkey’s.

Their window doesn’t close for another six days yet and as the Hoops try and manoeuvre a move for  the Greek international, it seems all hope is not lost yet that some losses on the £5m man’s fee can still be recouped.

With Barkas reportedly on a whopping £20,000 per week, the Parkhead board will surely be doing whatever they can to get that huge chunk of money removed from the wage bill.

I certainly hope so. For the player as much as the club.
