Clyde 1 Superscoreboard is a show that, regular readers will know, I listen to a lot to garner other peoples, pundits and players on the club.
It’s always good, sometimes, to keep an eye on what others are saying and to see how they think our players and club is performing.
Football is a game where opinions drive the fans feelings and this next on may yet upset the Celtic fan base.
Discussing Ryan Porteous on the show, a caller contacted the show to ask Mark Wilson and Gordon Dalziel whether or not they thought Porteous is a better player than Welsh.
Mark Wilson said, “Yes. I think he is. I’ve never been a Welsh hater like a lot of people.
“People were saying he’s not good enough or he must go.
“I think when Welsh is in, he does a decent job. He’s filled in a number of possessions at a time when the manager’s needed him.
“Is he going to be a stand-out or a first pick? No, he’s not.
“Now, Porteous, on his own merits. He’s been called up [to Scotland squad], he is looking like he’s on an upward path and he’s ready to take that next stage.
“But I wonder if Welsh could fit in and command the backline at that Hibs team just now as much as Porteous has, I would doubt that.”
Fellow pundit, Gordon Dalziel said, “That’s a difficult one. I don’t think Welsh has let anybody down. But going forward under the Celtic manager, I think Welsh will be moved on because the las will want to play.
“I don’t think he’ll get more game time at Celtic unless there’s injuries there.
“On the question, would I take Porteous over Welsh?
“I probably would.”
I’ll be honest. I think Welsh is a far more composed player than Porteous.
The departing Hibs player’s discipline record leaves a lot to be desired and I would rather have Welsh as a stand-in than Porteous.
I suppose the only crumb of comfort is that with the signing of Kobayashi, the chances of us going in for the Hibs man is extremely slim.
Mark Wilson is a fud no celtic supporter hates Welsh,some just don’t think he’s a good player, personally I would like to see him going out on loan,look what happened to Mc Gregor, Auer and Christie all came back far better and that’s what game time on a weekly basis does for players.
