Michael Carrick, possibly the most over-priced footballer on the planet, is looking forward to facing Celtic at Old Trafford next Wednesday (Sep 13).

The midfielder, who moved to Manchester United from Spurs during the summer for a staggering £18.6million in the summer, has told the press just how much he is looking forward to playing Champions League football.

Carrick (pictured above) told The Sun: ‘Playing in the Champions League was a massive factor in coming here. To be able to take part in some of the huge games I`ve watched on the telly in the past is very exciting. It really is the highest level – some say the Champions League games are on a par, if not better than the World Cup. So I can`t wait to be part of it.’

The comments should remind Celtic fans that Manchester United are not what they once were – here is a player who cost millions and millions, but who has no Champions League experience whatsoever.

Personally, I love the sly dig at Spurs when he refers to the ‘huge games I’ve watched on the telly’. Then again, Spurs fans should be happy. They might not have had the best starts to the season but they were paid a stupid amount for Carrick.

But enough with the insults. The talking will be done on the pitch, where it should be done. Hopefully, Carrick will be as disappointed after the match as he and his England team-mates were after being shown-up in the World Cup…
