“Racist”, “Damaged the brand”, “Bigoted”. – Disgraceful allegations levied at Chris Sutton as ban continues

Got to love Chris Sutton. When he played for the Hoops, he terrorised the old Rangers on the park.

The current Rangers?

Well, off it, he continues to get under their skin because his style of punditry does not sit well with them.

There has always been a kind of love/hate relationship between Rangers and Sutton but this time, it is going too far.

Now that Sutton has been banned, (let’s call it how it is because the official line of ‘security risk’ is just a load of nonsense), again from covering Europa League football in Govan, the Ibrox club continues to embarrass themselves with such a high profile exclusion, it makes a mockery of their ‘big club’ self labelling.

But as embarrassing as the clubs reaction is, it doesn’t come close to their fans reaction to it on their forum Follow Follow.

Anyone that has visited this site will testify that some of the threads generated on this platform can turn into a cesspit of abuse and loathing.

As their fans lauded in their clubs childish behaviour, the fans on the thread then accused Sutton of all manners of slanderous accusations.

One fan “fergie1959” said, “outspoken views on the game.?? bigoted comments against Rangers more like.

Another, ‘RfcIbrox’ said, “Sutton constantly damages our brand. Perfectly entitled to ban him.”

‘mart22’ made the following outrageous claim, “Sutton is far more infamous to the Rangers support for his racist outbursts against Alfredo, and deeply prejudiced assessments of Steven Gerrard’s achievements.

“I take satisfaction from the fact he will never set foot in Ibrox again.”

But to add balance and to show that it wasn’t all just abuse aimed at the former Hoops hitman, there was some shining light within the madness.

One person spoke up and claimed this move will cause the Ibrox club to damage themselves as ‘g87’ posted, “100%, he clearly wasn’t doing punditry on the Rangers game. Instead of BT showcasing a full Ibrox we will have our game covered from Parkhead.

“I don’t think people realise that BT pays the club millions to cover these games, it’s not like we are in a position to turn our nose up on that.

“As usual far too many on here like to pretend Sutton doesn’t matter then proceed to wet their pants when he says something.

“He’s only relevant because folk on here rise to the bait.”

As long as this pettiness continues, there will be more hate directed towards Sutton unless the former Hoops striker or his employers take a stand.

We shall wait with baited breath.
