Celtic skipper, Scott Brown, has backed Jeremie Frimpong to make a similar impact in the Hoops first XI and has the potential to be worth every bit as much as the £25m that Arsenal paid for the now departed, Kieran Tierney according to an article in The Daily Record.

Drawing such a comparison after a handful of appearances is a big statement from Brown but he supports his claim by detailing the physical and mental attributes that set the Dutch youth international apart from other youngsters that have made the move north in a thinly veiled dig at the likes of Charly Musonda et al.

Speaking as part of the build up to the Hoops mid-week fixture against Hearts, Brown said:

“I don’t think there’s been anyone apart from him and Kieran who’ve broken into the team at that age and done that well in such a short amount of time”.

“He (Frimpong) will be worth serious money in a few years. The main aim for us is to keep improving him. Kieran is the template for everyone that’s come through. His attitude and love for the club as well”.

“I’ve seen young kids come up here being big-time-charlies and swaggering around thinking they should be playing at the club when they don’t do the hard work”.

“These two boys (Scott Robertson and Frimpong) are willing to do the hard work, they are grafting and working in the gym or on the field and putting the yards in. That’s what you have to do to become a top-quality player”.

“We thought a wee laddie coming in from Man City could have a big-time attitude, but he takes everything in his stride. He’s happy as Larry and puts a smile on all the lads’ faces”.

“He’s willing to do the yards and is up and down the field for 90 minutes. He’s brilliant because he’s willing to learn and adapt”.

Frimpong has arguably gone from being a long-term prospect to first choice right-back in less than ten games and with 2 goals and 2 assists in 7 games it is easy to see why he has become such a popular figure with the fans.

His direct style of play has made him a nuisance for opposition defences and recently started in midfield to get the best from his attacking abilities, there is every chance he could yet make the more advanced position a regular occurrence.

Will Frimpong beat Tierney's transfer record?

Yes

Yes

No

No

As Brown mentioned, Frimpong has the attitude and work-rate to go with the obvious talent and physical attributes, if this is how good he is at 19, Tierney’s Scottish transfer record could well be dwarfed by the diminutive right-back but Hoops fans will be hoping for plenty more “oh my days” before that day eventually comes.
